How to secure a hitch bike rack as well as the bikes?
I am getting a hitch bike rack to put our bikes on the back of our SUV.
This is the rack we are getting: http://www.amazon.com/Allen-Deluxe-4-Bike-2-Inch-Receiver/dp/B001PLG7UK/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1311844824&sr=8-9
I know really we should not be too worried about thieves trying to steal our stuff since the rack is kind of a cheapo rack and our bikes are just simple bikes we picked up from wal-mart for about 100 bucks, But I would like to just be safe about it.
Are there any good locking anti rattle pins like the ones that come with the hitch racks that I could get so nobody could just remove the whole thing from the car? I was looking at the one at the following link.

any cheaper options?
Also what would be a good way to secure the bikes to the rack? Should we just use a typical cable lock or a u-shape lock and find a way to lock them to the rack this way nobody can just run off with the bikes themselves.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated. THANK YOU

You can use any lock for the hitch and just use a shim or wedge to keep the rack steady. I would get a chain or use U locks to secure the bikes to the rack. You want to avoid leaving the bikes on the rack for long periods of time especially overnight. I use a good size chain in my pick up to secure my bike to. Its cheap and bolt cutters wont touch it.

I had one that just had a lock lock internally, so it looked like a small barbell and you inserted the key in the middle. Now it wasn’t anti rattle, but my rack had stabilizer wings that you cranked down that held to the hitch. Perhaps you need this for this style, mine (it is a Bauer) stuck into the hitch about 6 inches, this one seems to be lots shorter.

The rack I once had, came with a rack pin that made it very difficult to steal the rack. It would be compatible to be swapped out for other custom pins.
I would simply get a good quality cable lock to ’secure’ the bikes from theft. I was vet favorably impressed with a Schlage 5/8" x 6 foot cable lock available at Lowe’s. (other hardware stores too) The average thief would not be equipped to deal with such a cable. Simply locking the frames together with a series of Ulocks would save the bikes frames. But, the cable would save frames and wheels.
